I have spent most of my adult life living in Northern Ontario. Both the land and the human figure have been my subjects, but of late I've become more and more drawn to the figure.
As a printmaker I am involved with two essential processes in the creating of art. There is the technical aspect of working with acids on metal, inks and presses and the aesthetic response to the subject matter. These must work in balance to support each other in order for a good piece of art to emerge.
In my work I try to develop a sense of universal emotion and feeling from the individual figure. I do not strive to create a portrait of a specific person but rather a figure which the viewer can find empathy with. It is important to me that my work create within the viewer a sense of the sadness, the passion, the introspection or the sensuality of the image. If I can leave a person with somewhat heightened feelings, I have succeeded.
